Following Your Soul Will Make You Happy
Sometimes we all just need to remember who we are

“Stuck in a rut” is easily one of the most common ways of saying life has lost its luster. Life can be very boring. Doing mundane tasks over and over without many powerful or memorable moments can be indeed numbingly dull. Yet those tasks or duties keep the world running. The farmers must keep farming to feed everyone. The bus drivers take us back and forth consistently to our destinations. The janitors sweep the floors for another day. Even the CEOs must check their email a gazillion times to make sure things are happening. Our busy planet efficiently operates on quite repetitive order, minute by minute.
Free time, on the other plane of existence, is an opportunity for our systematic mind to take a break running the show and let our souls come out to play. The soul (or spirit or inner self, whomever) tends to get put on hold until after work or school is done. “Free time” could essentially very well be “passion time”, and this is where we truly get to enjoy who we are.
Thrill-seeking souls will eagerly climb mountains or play high-stakes poker for a rush of adrenaline. Music-loving souls will put on their favorite songs or create music and heal their weariness. Swingers will swing. Artists will creatively flow. Runners will run. Writers will finally try to fandangle all their thoughts and ideas into a collective storyline, poem, or web article. Everyone has their own soul-seeking destinies and it feels wonderful to let them come alive and discover the gifts of the universe.
Boredom only really arises when a soul has been kept in the kennel too long- or perhaps the owner has forgotten about them altogether. Getting stuck with the day to day work and responsibilities can do that. Luckily, looking back on childhood dreams is a great refresher on what could be itching the psyche. If a inner spirit spends too much time neglected, the owner may need to go out on a search for it.

“Nowhere can man find a quieter or more untroubled retreat than in his own soul” ~ Marcus Aurelius
Just be sure to not let the soul keep control too long- those mundane tasks, chores, and routines are important too. Spending time being lead by the soul can be expensive sometimes (cost of a standard supported range climb of Mt. Everest can start at $28,000.00…. ) so keep working and saving, and tell the soul to just be patient. Also try to squeeze in more acute daily connections by listening to music or reading a good book on commutes, treats of delicious meals at lunch, stopping to take the picture of springtime popping up, keeping a notebook to jot down soul-loving ideas or doodles- the joy really is in finding and attending to those connections.
If life gets hectic and feels hopeless, which is can for anyone, try listening deep inside to that tiny inner spark that is always waiting patiently to be found and loved and nurtured. Take your soul on a walk and find your happiness.
